Module One - The Santiago Partnership Intro

This module introduces the Santiago Partnership, a Christian nonprofit working in Ecuador. As an international team of followers of Jesus Christ, they collaborate with the local church of Ecuador, South America, and seek to transform the lives of at-risk children and their families, as well as serve underprivileged communities. Module Two - The Capabilities Approach

Nobel-prize-winning economist, Amartya Sen, changed the development conversation with his theory of development as the expansion of capabilities, or freedoms, that may be exercised to achieve the life that people value for themselves. These freedoms interact with each other and may guide policy and justice reforms. According to Sen, development can be seen as a movement towards individuals having more choice and more freedom, removing major sources of unfreedom (Sen, 1999). Explore Module Two.

Module Three - From Unfreedoms to Expansion

The Santiago Partnership has beautifully executed its programming of a children’s home, prevention and intervention programs in cases of domestic violence or negligence, and in education and Sumak, the artisan craft studio for women. The success of The Santiago Partnership in Cayambe, Ecuador requires dedicated staff working in various capacities. The leaders and staff have ideas and dreams of expanding and are intentionally examining the needs of a community before entering and establishing programming.
